Contests are calculated using the following scoring events:

Points Scoring Events- ALL Players

Goal Scored

The Official goalscorer as supplied by OPTA. Goals scored will score additional points for a shot on target.

The final pass or pass-cum-shot leading to the recipient of the ball scoring a goal. Assists will usually score additional points for chances created.

Shot on Target

Any goal attempt that:

a)    Goes into the net

b)    Would have gone into the net but for being stopped by a goalkeeper's save

c)    Would have gone into the net but for being stopped by a defender who is the last man.

Goals will usually include a shot on target.

Successful Tackle

A Tackle Won is deemed to be where the tackler or one of his team-mates regains possession as a result of the challenge, or that the ball goes out of play and is "safe"

Chance Created

The final pass or pass-cum-shot leading to the recipient of the ball having an attempt at goal.

This is where a player intentionally intercepts a pass by moving into the line of the intended ball.

Opposition shot blocked

Any defensive block heading roughly on target toward goal where there are other defenders or a goalkeeper behind the blocker.

Foul Drawn

Where a player is fouled by an opponent. There is no foul won for a handball or a dive where a free kick is conceded.

5 Successful Passes

This is a defensive action where a player kicks the ball away from his own goal with no intended recipient of the ball.

Missed Penalty

Any penalty not immediately scored. A penalty on target will result in a shot on target.

Can I edit my lineup?

You can edit your lineup at any point before the start of the contest by clicking on the contest in the Upcoming tab.

Once the contest has started, you can edit players from your lineup, by going to the Live tab. You will only be able to swap players in and out whose match has not passed the scheduled kick-off time.

As an example:

Let’s say you select Wayne Rooney from the 12.30pm fixture, and Daniel Sturridge from a 3pm kickoff. Rooney plays as expected, but as the Man Utd game finishes, you learn that Sturridge has been sidelined by a strained pinky toe. Now you can swap out Sturridge and replace him with somebody else within budget from any eligible fixture that hasn’t yet passed scheduled kick-off time.

In the event of delayed games you cannot change a player for another with the same scheduled kick-off time, even if one of the kick-off times is subsequently changed. However if the game is postponed and is still part of the contest not after the day following the last other fixture in the contest), late swap will become available ahead of the newly scheduled game.

Simple, right?

What happens if there’s a draw in a contest?

In the event of a draw, all tied users split the total value of the prizes awarded to the tied places. For example, if 2nd place in a contest pays £500 and 3rd place pays £200, if two users tie for 2nd place, they each would receive a payout of £350.

For contests with special non-cash prizes, the rules for each specific contest will cover how ties are handled.

How do you deal with player scoring revisions?

During matches we receive live scoring events from our stats provider, OPTA. We normally settle contests one hour after its last match has finished. During that hour OPTA may revise their data slightly, which may alter the contest leaderboard and affect prize winning positions. Scores at the point of settlement will be those which dictate the results of a contest. Any further revisions to scores will not be included in the results of that contest.

If one or more matches in a contest are postponed, the contest will only be kept open to incorporate those matches which are played within 24 hours of their original kickoff time. We reserve the right to settle contests at a time which is appropriate.

Why are some of my opponents’ players hidden?

The ‘hidden player’ feature on FanDuel strictly applies to players whose games have not yet started. This makes sure all FanDuel users have a level playing field by protecting the hard work our users put into selecting their lineups. Once the hidden players' games begin, they will become visible.

How does scoring apply to the unique events related to goalkeepers?

Goalkeepers will receive points for any goalkeeper specific events in addition to the general scoring events. However outfield players will not receive goalkeeper unique events should they play in goal for any reason during a match.

What happens if any of the games are postponed or cancelled?

If a match is cancelled the players involved in that match will receive zero points in the contest. If a match is postponed, you will receive points for any games that are played no later than the day after the last game scheduled as part of the contest. If a match is postponed and played after this, the players in that contest will receive zero points. So for example a Tuesday - Wednesday contest fixture on a Tuesday can be postponed until Thursday at the latest, to count for the contest. But the same game would not count for a Tuesday only contest. In the result of postponement FanDuel will delay settlement until the end of that game so the player's scores can contribute to the contest, if required as per the rules above.

If game cancellations and/or postponements mean only one game goes ahead, then the contest will be cancelled and all entry fees will be refunded.

If a game is delayed on the same day, the late swap feature is not available and players are locked from being brought in/taken out at the time of original scheduled kickoff. However if the game is postponed to another day, late swap will become available for the new fixture time and date, as long as the fixture can continue to be part of that contest.

What happens if there is extra time?

Points accrued by players during extra time will be awarded under the same conditions and at the same values as they are during regular match time.

What happens if there is a penalty shootout?

Players do not accrue any points during a penalty shootout.

User Names

FanDuel may require users to change their user names in cases where the name is offensive or promotes a commercial venture. The requirement to change will be determined at FanDuel’s sole discretion, and if requests are ignored, FanDuel may unilaterally change a player’s user name.

Unfilled Contests

Contests labeled as "Fill-ups" require a specified number of participants to run. If that number of participants is not reached before the start of the contest, the contest will not take place and your entrance fee will be refunded. For example, a 10-person league will not be conducted with only 9 interested participants.

Canceling Entries / Refunds

Once you’ve entered a contest on FanDuel you are unable to cancel your entry.

Lineup Restrictions

Lineups must meet certain criteria. They must be within the maximum budget for the contest, include 11 players, use a valid formation, and have a maximum of 4 players from any one team.

Contest Settlement and Payment

We try to settle contests and run payments as quickly as possible, but must ensure we do so accurately. Most contests are settled shortly after the last match finishes. Please note there can sometimes be last minute changes. If there is difficulty obtaining official results or issues with scoring, the contest may be settled the following day.

Service Access and Editing Problems

While we try to ensure that FanDuel is functioning smoothly at all times, like any online service we may periodically experience periods of outage or slow performance. These can sometimes result in an inability to access the Service, problems editing lineups, or problems entering new contests. If you're unable to access the Service, please report the problems by emailing us at If there are sustained periods where players are unable to access Service functionality, or otherwise prevented from editing lineups, or in certain other situations, we may provide instructions on how to cancel your entries over email prior to game time.

Contest Cancellation

FanDuel also reserves that right to cancel contests at our discretion, without any restrictions. This would typically be done only in cases where we believe that due to problems on the Service or events impacting the sporting events, there would be a widespread impact on the integrity of contests.
